From China to Brazil: Belarusians around the globe ran over 54k kms in aid to «sunny» kids

Charitable activity SunRun Challenge #velcombegom is successfully finished. Belarusians around the globe over four days ran over 54 533 kms in aid to «sunny» kids with Down syndrome. Sports fans from over 20 countries joined charitable runs. According to terms and conditions of the given initiative velcom will transfer BYN 50 000 to the account of Children Orphanage for Handicapped Kids with Down Syndrome.
On 26 June Nikolay Yushkevich, First Deputy General Director of velcom handed over BYN 50 000 certificate to Director of the Orphanage Andrei Zhdanovich. All funds raised as a result of the activity will finance acquisition of high-end medical rehabilitation equipment.
«I would like to thank every participant who joined #velcombegom SunRun Challenge and who demonstrated excellent sports results and personal involvement into other people’s problems. velcom always focused on issues related to corporate social responsibility and settlement of important problems together with the society. SunRun Challenge proved that this cooperation is a success while «sunny» kids, our beneficiary, can benefit out of it», – noted Nikolay Yushkevich.
On 21-24 June Belarusians all over the world took part in charitable action SunRun Challenge. They ran in aid to «sunny» kids not only in Belarus but in Brazil, Great Britain, Slovakia, Switzerland, the Ukraine and Italy. Our people in Russia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany, France, Spain, Egypt, Oman, the USA, China, Kyrgyzstan and Cuba decided to help the orphans too. Andrei Berezovsky from Novopolotsk covered the longest distance, a true marathon and contributed 43.4 kms.
This year charitable project #velcombegom was organized under the sign of the Sun wherein all funds raised as a result of the runs were converted into kilojoules of «kind energy» at the amount of 15 000 000! On 23 June Minskers gathered for a Big charitable run SunRun Challenge at the reconstructed Dynamo stadium. They covered 3k kms and earned 1 mln kilojoules of «energy of kindness». On 24 June participants of the first Brest half marathon joined the initiative too.
Belarusian celebrities supported SunRun Challenge too. Vadim Devyatovsky, Chairman of Belarusian Athletic Federation, Marina Arzamasova, World Athletic Champion, Vitaly Gurkov, multiple World Thai Boxing Champion and front man of BRUTTO and many others toed the starting line. At the same time BATE gathered for a big team workout #velcombegom and ran 120 kms in aid to children.
#velcombegom is one of the largest social initiatives in Belarus. As a result of previous charitable runs financial support was rendered to Republican Centre for Rehabilitation of Handicapped Children under Ministry of Labor and Social Protection (2015), Ivenets Orphanage for Children with LMS disorders (2016), specialized orphanages in Rechitsa and Osypovichy (2016), Republican Scientific and Practical Centre for Pediatric Surgery (2017), Republican Children Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation (2017).
