#velcombegom: the first vertical run in aid to «sunny» kids took place in Belarus
Jun 8, 2018
Massive vertical run «to the sun» took place in skiing and sports resort Logoisk on 7 June. Over 200 sportsmen ran 650 m in a rapid ascent. An unusual run was an announcement for SunRun Challenge within the framework of a new phase of charitable initiative #velcombegom. This time velcom urged Belarusians to run in aid to «sunny» children, i.e. kids with Down syndrome.
650 m might seem easy, but only if it is not a vertical ascend with a vertical drop of almost 100 m. And this is the run that velcom team together with representatives of five running clubs in Minsk took in Logoisk. The activity was supported by running academy YOUCAN, running school LetsRun, running school IRUN, Nike+ running club Minsk as well as BISON RACE club that gathered the most massed team of 100 runners. Thus sportsmen announced massive activity SunRun Challenge taking place from 21 till 24 June within the framework of charitable activity #velcombegom.
«#velcombegom runs do not have losers and every participant’s contribution matters. We have an exciting journey SunRun Challenge ahead of us and I am confident together we will accomplish the goal. In order to cover precious 50 000 kms and help children, there is no need to conquer Everest. Just put your sportswear on and take a run. Big changes start with small steps. This is the philosophy velcom corporate social responsibility policy sticks to», – noted Nikolay Bredelev, head of velcom PR.
Participants are expected to jointly cover 50 000 kms in aid to pupils of Children Orphanage for handicapped children with special needs. All funds raised will be transferred for acquisition of high-priced rehabilitation equipment for the children.
«Charity children do need daily attention and care. Not only is it communication and professional care but also rehabilitation equipment children life and health depend on. I am grateful to velcom and all sportsmen for participation in vertical run «to the sun». I hope it will inspire other Belarusians and will become a start to a big act of kindness», – noted Alexander Rumak, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus.
In order to help children, a volunteer needs to take a run from 21 through 24 June and post his/ her result in social networks with hashtag #velcombegom. Since this is a «sunny» activity, all kms will be converted into kilowatts. Belarusians will need to cover 50 000 kms and thus generate 13 180 000 kilojoules. Should the goal be achieved, velcom will transfer BYN 50 000 to the account of Children Orphanage for handicapped children with special needs.
#velcombegom is velcom’s charitable sports initiative aimed at aid to children in need and children medical institutions as well as popularization of healthy lifestyle among Belarusians. #velcombegom runs are organized on the annual basis since 2015.
