On 23 June in Minsk a Big charity run #velcombegom SunRun Challenge took place at reconstructed Dynamo stadium. A hazy weather was no hurdle for Belarusians to get together under the sign of the Sun and run in aid to children with Down syndrome. Professional sportsmen and not indifferent Minskers toed the starting line. All kms covered were converted into aid to Children Orphanage for Handicapped Children with Special Needs.
At 11am on 23 June over a thousand of Minskers gathered on the race tracks of the impressive sports facility. Well-known Belarusian sportsmen Vitaly Gurkov and Yuri Solodky headed star workouts. Every participant could select the length of the distance on one’s own.
«Today Belarusians around the world unite in order to help children and give them «energy of kindness». And it does not matter what is the weather outdoor. A Big SunRun Challenge proves that everyone is capable of sharing warmth even in bad weather. Such initiatives unite people around sport and lead to real results. Every participant of SunRun Challenge has already helped «sunny» children and changed their life for the better», – noted Nikolay Yushkevich, First Deputy General Director of velcom.
A Big SunRun Challenge became the third official event at the reconstructed Dynamo stadium and the first charity run over the history of the stadium since 1934. Belarusian Athletics Federation and personally its chairman Vadim Devyatovsky supported the initiative too. Iryna Dudka, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection of Minsk Municipality hit the racing track. Alexander Rumak, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection ran a few lapses together with other participants.
«We are happy that not only sport but also good deeds do become fancy in Belarus. I’m confident that all participants of today’s Big Run #velcombegom gained more than a portion of health and pleasant ache. One feels pride and happiness after such runs. Not only did we hit the finish line but also helped children», – stated Alexander Rumak.
Children Orphanage for Handicapped Children with Special Needs is the beneficiary of the charitable initiative #velcombegom.
«These days the whole country runs in aid to children residing in the orphanage. A Big Run SunRun Challenge is a big contribution into their future. All funds raised as a result of the activity will finance acquisition of costly medical equipment that our children need badly», – noted Andrei Zhdanovich, Director of Children Orphanage.
Belarusians from around the world joined #velcombegom. Over first two days SunRun Challenge counted over 15 000 kms or 4 500 000 kilojoules of «energy of kindness». Dozens of well-known Belarusians ran in aid to «sunny» kids. Thus, Vitaly Gurkov, a famous sportsmen and front man of BRUTTO brought 15 kms for the overall result while BATE footballers organized a big team workout #velcombegom and jointly covered 120 kms.
