velcom is awarded as Patron of Belarusian Culture 2017. On 24 April certificate of Ministry of Culture of Belarus was handed over to Helmut Duhs, CEO of velcom at the official ceremony. The company efforts were appreciated in nomination «Support of Innovative Cultural Projects».
Support of projects associated with Belarusian culture is an integral part of company philosophy. Thus, in 2017 «Classic Music at Cityhall Together with velcom» was another step in popularization of classic music heritage in an open format which attarcted special attention to Belarusian music heritage. The festival started with a show by Chief Conductor of Belarusian National Academic Symphonic Orchestra Alexander Anisimov dedicated to their 90th anniversary. Dozens of thousands of Belarusians and guests of the country visited eight concerts in Minsk city centre. The final touch of the festival was a photo exhibition created by the spectators.
Since 2017 velcom Smartfilm festival gained international format as a platform for realization of new ideas and nonstandard solutions in creation of shortfilms. 7th velcom Smartfilm festival set new records: 311 works (77 of them Belarusian) from 51 countries. A large scale project MOVABOX united contemporary Belarusian literature, digital technologies and book crossing across 7 cities.
In 2017 interactive classes across the country engaging celebrities and contemporary literary workers within the framework of «We Read Belarusian Together with velcom» attracted over 23 thousand of children. The initiative was continued with an online contest that gathered over 2 000 reciters. Besides, «Belarusian weekends» facilitated in dubbing and organization of demonstration of world class films in Belarusian language for over 20 000 viewers. The company also supported a well-known show «Travels of the Layman» retelling about unique places in Belarus. The show collected 250 000 views online.
Last year velcom continued supporting creation of inclusive environment in Belarus drawing society’s attention to the problem of autism. Family inclusive theatre «і» together with velcom presented a musical based on a play written by a special child with special kids acting in it. Under the auspice of velcom international seminar Theatre and Autism. Q&A as well as Belarusian craftsmanship masterclass for kids with autism was organized in Minsk.
